break kratom tolerance

If you’ve been using kratom for a while now you’ve probably run into the problem of kratom tolerance.

This is a common side effect of using kratom too often without changing strains or taking a tolerance break.

The effects of kratom are greatly diminished if you haven’t taken a break for a long time.

So how long does it take to reset kratom tolerance ?

Surprisingly not long, if you follow all the steps in this article you can absolutely destroy your tolerance and still get the effects of kratom while doing so.

With that being said let’s get into how to reduce your tolerance.

What causes Kratom Tolerance

High tolerance occurs when you take kratom multiple times a week without switching out strains. Your body gets used to a single strain with continued use and diminishes the effects meaning you need to take more.

This is why Switching out strains or “cycling” is crucial to keeping tolerance at bay. It keeps you from getting used to a single kind of kratom strain.

Also using kratom for long periods of time without taking a break can cause problems and even lead to dependency. It’s a good idea to take kratom one week and take a week off and replace it with other high quality nootropics.

It takes a long time before users start to see increase in tolerance. Continued use of kratom without a break or cycling can be damaging to your health.

Negative Effects of Long Term Usage

According to the AAC (American Addiction Center) continued use of kratom can see harmful effects such as:

  • Liver Damage
  • Mood swings
  • Decreased libido
  • Tremors/seizures
  • Pain in joints/muscles

Not to alarm anyone or turn you off of kratom, I feel it’s important to let people know that wrongful use of this plant can have serious health problems.

People who take too much kratom often report feeling fatigued and nauseous after long term usage without a break.

It’s important to know HOW to take kratom.

How to Tell if You Have Kratom Tolerance

If you find that you’re taking the same amount or more and the effects are non existent then you have a tolerance.

If you keep increasing the amount without cycling your strains your tolerance will go up faster.

Measure out your doses every time

After a while eyeballing doesn’t cut it, you want to get a digital scale and measure how many grams you take.

You can get a cheap one here. It’s easy to use and you know exactly how much kratom you’re getting.

Knowing how much kratom you take helps you track your intake and keeps you from developing a tolerance too quick.

If you’re new a good dose is 1-2 grams.

Once you get used to it you dose 2-4 grams for maximum effect.

Learn how your body responds to kratom. Don’t take to much or you might get sick. It’s easy to go overboard.

Another method that keeps you from building a tolerance are kratom blends. Most kratom vendors offer blends that have different strains mixed together.

With that in mind let’s get into cycling kratom strains.

Cycling Kratom Strains

As you can see above there 3 main colors to kratom each with their own sub strains.

RED strains have calming sedating effect that slows you down and makes you more relaxed. Makes it much easier to get work done when you’re calm and collected.

GREEN strains are in the middle they have effects of slow and fast strains. It has calming but still stimulating effect making you uplifted and more motivated than your usual cup of coffee.

WHITE strains are the fast strains they have a very stimulating effect that boosts your productivity through the roof, has a mild euphoric effect, and even helps mitigate depression.

Depending on what effect you’re going for you might only want to take one kind of color strain. This works fine as there multiple strains per kratom color.

As a rule of thumb it’s good to have multiple color strains to rotate to keep from getting used to one type of kratom.

Here’s an example of a basic kratom cycle routine.

DayStrain type
MondayRed Bali
TuesdayGreen Maeng da
Wednesday(Off Day)
ThursdayWhite Horned Rhino
FridayRed Thai
SaturdayGold Maeng da

You can customize this routine depending on your needs but you should have at least two off days.

This keeps the active compounds and alkaloids from building up in your body. Meaning your tolerance will stay balanced and you won’t need as much to achieve the same effects.

I used kratom one week then take off completely the following week and replace it with another powerful nootropic like modafinil.

Using this method will keep you from developing a high tolerance for a long time, but what if your tolerance is already to high and you need a break ?

Luckily after using kratom for a while I have a solution that will cut your kratom tolerance down in just a week.

How to Break Kratom Tolerance

kratom tolerance

Breaking your kratom tolerance like anything else just involves letting your system reset and getting it out of your body.

Surprisingly kratom doesn’t take that long to get completely out of your system.

Kratom only has a half life of 23 hours.

That basically means that half of the active alkaloids in kratom are eliminated from your body in 23 hours.

For an infrequent user you get it out of your system in a few days.

For more heavy users you can get most of it out of your body in a week.

If you want to really get everything out of your system, then follow the routine laid out below:

Kratom Detox Routine

If you’re looking to get the kratom out your system completely then look at the general guide laid out below. I used it to get myself and others off of kratom long enough to break tolerance.

User experience may vary but from what I’ve tried this is the best kratom detoxing guide out there.

Method 1. Drink a gallon of Distilled water every day

Drinking a gallon of distilled water is a great method for flushing toxins out of the body.

There’s no nutritional value from drinking distilled water it just goes right through your body making it a great choice for detoxing.

It also clears up any acne and greasy skin you might have.

I used this method to get kratom out my system and have never had a problem.

Method 2. Use Magnesium to Lower Kratom Tolerance

According to a reddit user, using magnesium helps with kratom dependence.

Apparently supplementing with magnesium helps cut down the effects of withdrawal, such as helping with the pain, anxiety and, sleeplessness that is brought on by stopping after prolonged use.

I’ve never been to this level of withdrawal but if you’re trying to stop using kratom and are having a hard time with the side effects supplementing with magnesium is definitely worth a try.

Another option would be to supplement with a magnesium sulphate powder in a glass of water before bed to fight withdrawal symptoms.

Method 3. Use Kratom Alternatives

Using other mind boosting nootropics in place of kratom is a god send and effective strategy for keeping an edge while getting kratom out of your body.

Here’s a short list of alternatives that work wonders in place of kratom

  • CBD Oil
  • Kava
  • Modafinil
  • Valerian root
  • Ashwagandha
  • Matcha Tea

Using any of these alternatives are great while you’re taking a break from kratom.

Some of them like CBD oil help with the effects of kratom withdrawal as well.

If you’re having problems staying off of kratom for any period of time refer back to the list above.

Method 4. Sweat It Out

A good method for getting anything out of your system is to just sweat it out.

Consider joining a gym or some place that has a sauna where you can sweat out everything in your system.

Exercise and sweating will help speed up the process of getting the alkaloids out of your system.

This will also cut back on the withdrawal symptoms

Sweating out kratom drastically cuts back on withdrawal symptoms as it leaves your body.

Dealing With Kratom Withdrawal Symptoms

If you follow the detox routine you should experience little in the way of withdrawal symptoms.

If you still have some symptoms that’s fine they’ll go away after about a week.

Use Magnesium to help with the symptoms.

If you access to medical cannabis that also helps. Consider using CBD products to help ease the side effects and should go away in a few days.

If you still are having a hard time with the withdrawal stage then you might need professional help. Consider talking to your doctor if symptoms persist.

I’ve never known anyone that had it so bad they needed to go to the hospital.

However, if you think it’s that bad get some help.

Symptoms should never last more than a week.

In Closing

With all that in mind you should be able to destroy your kratom tolerance in no time.

If you have any questions about kratom tolerance leave them below, believe me I’ve been there and it’s no fun.

Symptoms may last longer depending on how often and how much you take but using this routine and other detox methods will cut down on withdrawal effects quickly.

The bottom line is kratom is your friend, just remember like all things everything in moderation. Use blends, cycle out your strains, and take days off to stave off tolerance and get the full benefits of kratom.

That’s all I’ve got to say on breaking tolerance. Let me know if you have any questions down below. I’ll see you next time.
