best nootropics for energy

People looking to boost their energy levels are turning to nootropics as an alternative for increasing their energy output. As nootropics become more popular and accessible, companies are churning out nootropics that specifically boost energy and enhance cognition to make you more productive.

Writers, students, day traders, and entrepreneurs alike are all using some form of nootropics that increase work output to gain an edge over their competition and it’s plain to see that there’s a massive benefit to using them.

When it comes to using nootropics for energy there are generally two types. There are nootropics that contain caffeine and ones that use different natural complexes that increase focus and promote wakefulness naturally. This list will cover both and the pros and cons of using each type.

So whether you’re just looking to give yourself a little extra boost or some extra brain power to get all of your work goals done the nootropics on this list will no doubt get you the results you’re looking for. With that said let’s get into it.

Which Nootropics Work Best For Energy?

Limitless Nootropics

Any nootropic supplement that has an amount of caffeine or a mix of vitamins and other natural compounds that work to stimulate the nervous system is a great choice for boosting energy. Which one you take is up to you, there are some people who don’t like caffeine or can’t take it due to sensitivity to caffeine.

This list will contain nootropics in both categories, one that contains caffeine and one that doesn’t, each with its own pros and cons. There are benefits to taking both and combining them into a stack which I’ll also cover in this article.

I’ll start with nootropics that contain caffeine first and some of the benefits of a caffeine stack.

Nootropics With Caffeine

caffeine for energy

There are numerous benefits that come with taking nootropics with caffeine one of the most common being coffee as well as some others. Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant and works on several parts of the brain.

With That here are a few nootropics that will have you energized for the rest of the day.

Coffee

You can’t have a list of energizing nootropics without mentioning coffee, having been consumed for hundreds of years and being the most consumed beverage behind water coffee is a lot of people’s go-to drink for an energy boost.

Drinking coffee is totally different from drinking an energy drink for a number of reasons. For one coffee contains antioxidants that help combat free radicals in the body and keep you healthy. As well as decreasing your risk of Alzheimer’s and diabetes coffee contains a ton of health benefits.

Drinking coffee regularly gives you some amazing benefits not only are you energized for hours on end, but it also repairs the brain and helps prevent age-related diseases such as dementia. A study showed that regularly drinking coffee helps protect your brain against the effects of aging and protects against neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia [R]

Coffee also increases cognitive functions such as focus and better memory whereas downing a red bull will just make you feel jittery with some energy for a while before crashing. Coffee still energizes you without making you feel burnt out (you still crash from too much, but the effect is well worth it) even if you’re not a fan of coffee there are other options such as.

Qualia Energy

Neurohacker Collective the company behind Qualia has put out some impressive products and their energy complex is no exception. Unlike other companies that load their nootropics with a crapload of caffeine and other fillers, Qualia energy contains a unique and powerful blend of top-notch ingredients that will make you alert without feeling tweaked out.

*As a side note one way you can tell a supplement is legit is if you look at the ingredients. If a company just loads it up with mostly caffeine and has a “proprietary blend” without listing the ingredients it means it’s a crappy product with a ton of caffeine and nothing else.

A nootropic that actually works has some caffeine and other ingredients or compounds that have a synergistic effect with said caffeine. Take L-theanine and coffee for example this stack works more effectively for creating more energy and focus because the L-theanine takes the edge off allowing you to stay relaxed but still energized at the same time.

Qualia Energy accomplishes this perfectly by carefully researching all the ingredients that go into it you have a product that works really well and gives you amazing clarity and energy for hours on end.

Redline Energy

Part of Bang energy company this energy drink isn’t like other energy drinks that have a ton of sugar and caffeine. Actually, it has A LOT of caffeine, about 300mg per can as well as a number of other ingredients that really pull it together.

Aside from a high caffeine content, each can also contain L-theanine to balance it out as I mentioned above and contains a high amount of Alpha GPC. I’ve talked about Alpha GPC before on this blog in my best nootropics for focus list but a quick recap of it is, Alpha GPC plays on the choline system which produces acetylcholine, a highly bio-available form of choline that has a number of benefits for your brain, such as improved memory recall, longer attention span and an ability to remain focused for extended periods of time.

Not only that but the effects of alpha GPC are amplified when consumed with caffeine, these two work very well synergistically so the people who made this drink really know what they’re doing. I personally always take some form of alpha GPC whether it’s by itself or in a blend of a high-end nootropic like gorilla mind smooth.

The bottom line is Redline energy contains enough caffeine along with several high-end nootropics as well as b vitamins that also increase energy. If you want to try it which I highly recommend you can find it on Amazon it’s cheaper than qualia and works wonders.

Nootropics Without Caffeine

kratom can be more energizing than coffee, no joke

There are a surprising amount of nootropics and other drugs that make you more energized than a cup of coffee. These smart drugs can play on different receptors in the brain to achieve this effect which I’ll go into. So if you’re not a fan of coffee or have an ungodly amount of caffeine in your system there are a few alternative options that are just as effective as caffeine if not more so.

Kratom (Fast Strains)

If you read through my blog you’ll see that I’m a huge fan of kratom and the wide range of benefits that come with it. There are many different types of kratom and depending on the strain you choose you will get a different effect.

If you pick a fast strain, you will not only feel like an unstoppable force but amazingly content and euphoric as well. This is because kratom in addition to stimulating your adrenal system also produces more neurotransmitters in the brain such as serotonin and dopamine making you energized and in a great mood as well.

This makes it 100x easier to get any kind of work done, when you’re energized and in a great mood you feel like whatever task you’re completing doesn’t even feel like work, and everything flys by like a breeze.

If you want kratom specifically for productivity and energy then check out my post on the best kratom for energy and motivation, all the strains there I’ve tried and have had nothing but good results from fast strains of good kratom.

Modafinil

modafinil especially combined with some of the other nootropics on this list gives you insane amounts of energy, there’s a reason it’s compared to the drug from limitless for good reason. It doesn’t give you genius-level intelligence but does give you high energy and focus for hours on end.

Modafinil is a wakefulness drug designed for people struggling with narcolepsy however, anyone who uses modafinil will notice and benefit from its effects. After it kicks in which usually takes around half an hour you are laser-focused for hours on end and feel like you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.

If you want a quick primer on modafinil you can read more here.

Onnit Shroom Tech

Shroom tech is designed by Onnit as a workout supplement that energizes you before your workout without any stimulants, however, you can pop a few of these vegetable capsules before going to work or any situation and feel a surge of energy without the effects of caffeine.

Its energy complex is designed to give you the performance you need inside the gym or at work. No matter what the situation you’ll definitely feel the effects shortly after taking it.

Nootropics For Energy Stacks

nootropic energy stack

While you can take nootropics that boost energy through the roof you want something that “balances” the energy out so you’re not walking around all jittery. Too much of these nootropics especially caffeine can have some negative side effects, you want to take the right amount while having something like L-theanine to balance it out.

Depending on your tolerance and overall body chemistry, you can take stronger doses of certain nootropics together for an increased effect. This is what’s known as a stack. Depending on what you’re trying to do whether it’s wake up faster or trying to cram for finals, you stack some nootropics for energy throughout the day.

I’ll briefly go over a few stacks below and elaborate on how to stack these supplements together and how to make your own stack.

My Favorite Caffeine Stack

There are several stacks that can be used if you want more energy there’s an option for one with caffeine and one with no caffeine.

This caffeine stack is as follows:

In the morning take 1 Tab of Modafinil With 1-2 cups of STRONG coffee

Immediately after, take 200mg of L-theanine. This will balance out the amount of caffeine you’re consuming and keep things balanced.

Best Kratom For Energy Stack

Kratom can be stacked with some nootropics (not all of them) for incredibly high energy and productivity.

AN IMPORTANT NOTE: Taking too much kratom and combining it with other nootropics can make you really sick. It’s important you start out with only a little 1-3 grams to assess tolerance and take it slow and remember to hydrate as taking kratom dehydrates you.

With that said if you’ve taken kratom before here’s a stack you can use that really makes you fired up.

In the morning With some water take only 1-3 grams of a fast strain of kratom.

Combine this with modafinil and you’ll be on another planet for hours.

If you want you can have coffee with kratom I love this combo and just keep hydrated and have some food in you before you do this.

Best Non-Caffeine Stack For Energy

If you’re not a fan of caffeine there’s still a stack you can take that will give you a lot of energy without the side effects you get from caffeine.

1-2 shroom tech upon waking.

Combine with Gorilla Mind smooth or modafinil for a smooth energy rush for the entire day.

Another shroom tech in the afternoon.

Some kava tea at the end of the day.

YOUR own Nootropics For Energy Stack

The idea for making your own nootropics energy stack is to take a nootropic that stimulates you like coffee or kratom and add a few supplements that complement the effects of the stimulant you’re taking.

For example, if you’re consuming coffee you’re going to combine it with L-theanine to add the relaxing effects of it and maybe some alpha GPC which by itself is effective but when combined with caffeine its effects are amplified giving you a stack that energizes you without making you jittery as well as increasing your ability to do cognitive tasks without burning out for long periods of time.

So if you get burnt out easily or have a hard time focusing on homework or just working after a long day a stack like this can help you get through it much easier. If you’re sensitive to caffeine and it’s the end of the day you can just take something like Alpha GPC by itself and have it with some Kava tea for a smooth yet intense focus that will help you plow through tasks without keeping you up all night.

When it comes to making your own stack a lot of it is experience and learning about what nootropics/supplements do what and how your body reacts to them. After a little trial and error, you’ll learn very quickly which nootropics work for you and which don’t.

Side Effects

side effects

It’s worth noting that taking any supplement, especially ones that have caffeine that there are some potential side effects that come with taking them. If you’re overweight or have heart problems it’s a good idea to talk to your doctor before you take any of the supplements on this list.

Taking too much caffeine can lead to some of the following side effects:

  • Increased Anxiety
  • Increased Heart rate
  • Nausea
  • Cold Sweats
  • Insomnia

These nootropics can be extremely effective for energy but the flip side is they can have some unwanted side effects that keep you up longer than intended or slightly anxious so like everything, take it slow assess tolerance, and don’t take any of these supplements unless your 18 or over.
